One Company’s Solution: Make Fitness Fun

Businessman with beach ballLaufer Freight Forwarding Service based in Manhattan has an employee population with a typical profile; long hours at the desk, demanding clients, little free time, important deadlines critical to the organization’s success, and an all-male team minimally involved in grocery shopping and cooking. Their objective to incorporate healthy habits both in and out of the office is a familiar challenge.

As the seminar facilitator sent onsite to present a lunch and learn on healthy habits, I learned of their objective to inspire each other to be more physically active. Their initial hesitation to start a formal health program lead to brainstorming a theme-based and humorous approach to getting moving: Planksgiving, Crunchmas, and Jumping January. The ideas took hold and ongoing monthly creative themes kept the initiative upbeat and inviting. The simple, innovative start to health awareness in this office resulted in stress reduction, team building, and paved the path for additional healthy habits which were incorporated in subsequent months.
